Automatic Transmission Repair FAQs

  • Yes. You should have your transmission serviced every 15,000 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. The reason for this is that transmission fluids can break down or wear out over time. Getting your transmission serviced can add years to its life.

  • There are several ways to know whether you have a transmission problem. These can include the check engine light, leaking transmission fluid, the transmission stalling or failing, or noise coming out of the transmission.

About Transmissions Fluids FAQs

  • Transmission fluid is the fluid that enables your vehicle to seamlessly shift gears without tearing them. This is the fluid that lubricates the gears and helps preserve the transmission system.

  • You can check the transmission fluid by using the dipstick. Checking the fluid is very important for keeping your transmission working properly.

  • Transmission fluid exchanges also fluctuate based on the transmission type. However it is generally recommended every two to three years.

  • Automatic transmission fluid should be red and/or translucent. If the fluid looks cloudy, or has a dark or brownish tinge, it may be time to bring your car in.

Additionally if you notice the fluid level is low or it has a burned smell, it may be time for new transmission fluid.

More Manual/ Automatic Transmission Repair FAQs

  • Transmissions get worn down primarily while shifting. Wait a second before shifting gears, drive easy, and don’t spin your tires in the snow. These will make sure that your transmission lasts longer.

  • The primary reason transmissions fail is heat. At high temperatures, fluid breaks down, clutches burn, and seals harden. Heat is one of the most common causes of transmission failures.

  • Sometimes a poor running engine can display symptoms similar to a transmission problem. Because the engine and the transmission work together so closely, it’s best to get your engine checked out as well.

  • Fixing your transmission on your own can sometimes worsen the problem. Do not trust over the counter additives or anything that promises it will fix your transmission. Taking it into Quality Transmission will solve the problem and prevent future problems.
